Who We Are

Home for Good New Orleans is a community-wide effort to achieve low to no unsheltered homelessness in New Orleans.

Our Vision

A community where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring; where every resident has access to safe, affordable housing, and where the support and resources needed to overcome homelessness are readily available.

What We've Accomplished

Home for Good kicked off in 2023 with an ambitious goal to connect 1500 people living on the streets of New Orleans to housing in two years–and establish new partnerships to keep New Orleans’ iconic spaces safe and clean.

The City of New Orleans created the Office of Homeless Services & Strategies dedicated to homelessness and activated an infusion of special federal funds alongside local investment to open up new pathways off the street. In December of 2025, we reached our goal: 1,537 people connected to housing.

Preventing street sleeping through outreach and maintenance

We are working to connect our neighbors with appropriate care and maintain New Orleans’ public spaces for all. Our outreach workers engage with individuals sleeping on the street to help end their homelessness. We also coordinate state and local services to maintain former encampment areas.

We also partner with city services to keep encampments closed and spaces maintained.

Transitioning shelter residents to permanency​

Efficiently moving shelter residents into housing helps our shelters maintain capacity to meet the emergent needs of our city.

We target newcomers to shelter and connect them with the resources they need to rapidly return to housing stability, without long-term subsidies. We also identify long-term shelter residents and troubleshoot barriers to exiting shelter.​

Connecting our most vulnerable residents to stabilization and recovery and to crisis responders, law enforcement, and mental health care systems

A small percentage of homeless individuals in our city need extra support. These individuals often move from system to system without getting the support they need to stabilize.

We are bringing crisis responders, law enforcement, mental health care systems together with the homeless system to connect individuals to the higher levels of care they need to stabilize and build a long-term plan that prevents cycling between institutions and the streets.

System Improvements: Youth and Family Strategic Plans

We are taking extra steps to prevent and address homelessness among New Orleans youth and families. We designed strategic plans to meet the unique needs of youth and families who need extra support to prevent homelessness before it occurs or who have recently become homeless.
